Credit card refusals increase

A QUARTER of customers who have applied for a credit card or loan during the past year have been turned down.

Around 25 per cent of those who applied for one of the products during 2010 had their application rejected, according to moneysupermarket.com.

Young people were the most likely to be turned down, with 36 per cent of credit card and loan applications from people aged between 18 and 34 unsuccessful, compared with just 12 per cent among the over-50s.

Men were also more likely to be disappointed than women.
