County chief to step down
THE chief executive of Midlothian Council, Trevor Muir, has announced he is retiring after 36 years in local government in Scotland.
Mr Muir will leave his post in July.
Scotland's longest-serving chief executive, he has spent 22 years in the service of Midlothian.
Prior to that, he saw service with Aberdeen and Glasgow Councils.
He said: "It was always my intention to retire during the lifetime of this council, and I think the time is now right for the council to appoint a new chief executive to take it up to the next election and beyond."
Councillor Derek Milligan, leader of Midlothian Council, said: "Trevor has overseen many changes in Midlothian over the last 22 years, and has worked effectively and tirelessly to serve the council and the community."
