Counterfeiter has £135k assets seized

A COUNTERFEITER convicted of selling pirated DVDs at the former Ingliston Market has had £135,000 of criminal assets seized from him.

Craig Halliday was hit with the confiscation order last month at Edinburgh Sheriff Court under Proceeds of Crime legislation.

The move followed the 33-year-old's guilty plea for selling counterfeit DVDs and computer disks at the market.

Among the assets seized were his home in Kilmarnock, several bank accounts, a motor home valued at 24,000 and an Opel car valued at 5000.

Mr Halliday was one of six people charged last year under trademark and copyright laws following a raid on the market in June 2004. Four of his family members were among those arrested.

Brian and Helen Halliday Snr, both 60, Collette Halliday, 32, and Helen Halliday Jnr, 20, all of Newmilns, were charged, along with Scott Cowan, 25, of Irvine.

Last week, it was revealed that more than 100,000 of criminal assets had been seized in the Lothians in the last six months.

Drug dealer Mark Halliday, 29, from Trinity, was among the criminals affected after he had the proceeds of his "Champagne lifestyle" seized following his jail sentence earlier this year.

Halliday, no relation of the counterfeiter, drove a Mercedes and regularly holidayed in the Maldives, and was said to be leading one of the Capital's biggest cocaine dealing gangs.
