Counselling for the deaf

PEOPLE with hearing problems in the Lothians are to be offered one-to-one counselling.

As part of a pilot scheme by NHS Lothian, those who are completely deaf or even hard-of-hearing will have access to trained specialists.

They will deal with issues such as depression, anxiety, family problems and bereavement and will offer advice to improve lifestyle and relationships.

The team is made up of two counsellors, one of whom is deaf, and benefits from the services of numerous students on placement.
