I applaud Alex Massie (Perspective, 24 September) for challenging the lazy view that population growth deserves the bulk of the blame for the fact that so many people in the world are starving. I agree with his argument that prosperity and decent politics could help tackle hunger.
It is too easy to sit back and blame population growth when people far away are suffering.
May I also point out that it was Thomas Malthus who wrote An Essay on the Principle of Population. Robert was his middle name.
