Concert buffs get chance to pick anthem
EDINBURGH concert-goers are to be given the chance to choose the song they would most like to see become the Scottish National anthem.
The audience at the Royal Scottish National Orchestra concert at the Usher Hall on Saturday, June 10, will be asked to belt out the shortlist of songs, lending their voices to the country-wide debate on the anthem.
During the annual Last Night of the Proms concert, the RSNO will perform the five most popular choices: A Man's a Man for a' That, Highland Cathedral, Scotland the Brave, Scots Wha Hae! and Flower of Scotland.
RSNO chief executive Simon Woods said: "I am very happy that Scotland's national orchestra is playing a leading role in this vigorous national debate.
"The Last Night of the RSNO ScottishPower Proms is the ideal occasion to hear how these patriotic songs sound when sung by massed voices.
"And we are thrilled to be able to make the recordings available across the length and breadth of the nation, so that the whole of Scotland will have the chance to make its choice known."
Anyone unable to attend the concert will also be able to vote by logging on to the RSNO's website, www.rsno.org.uk, between June 11 and 30.
