Community News: 'Dental splint' offers therapy for migraines

RENOWNED city dentist Dr Biju Krishnan and physiotherapist Kirsten Lord have combined their skills to devise a specialist treatment for migraines.

Their Migraine Relief Clinic offers patients a "dental splint" to reduce teeth grinding and three physiotherapy sessions at the Edinburgh Physiotherapy Centre for 450.

Dr Krishnan, owner of Lubiju, said: "Not only is the splint a successful treatment for migraines, it can also prevent tooth damage."

Weight-loss expert looks to expand

Edinburgh entrepreneur Shirley Ross is hoping to expand her business by helping to shrink people's waistlines.

Ms Ross, who runs the Edinburgh North East All About Weight consultancy, has now opened a shop in Easter Road offering a drop-in service for slimmers.

She hopes if the initial store is a success that she will be able to open further shops in the west of the Capital.

Consultant handed BMA role

A LOTHIANS consultant has been appointed the head of his peers following an election.

Dr Lewis Morrison has become the chairman of the British Medical Association's Scottish Consultants Committee.

Zoo focuses on otter find

ANIMAL lovers are being invited to Edinburgh Zoo to look at the conservation work of the International Otter Survival Fund.

The event, taking place at the zoo's education centre on September 23, from 7.30pm to 9pm, will cover the Eurasian otter, showing the first ever footage of it in the wild.

Say cheers to bar after fundraising for charity

A BAR in the Capital which hosted free drag shows during the Fringe has raised 1000 for a children's bereavement charity.

Cafe Habana raised funds through collection buckets in aid of Richmond's Hope, in memory of five-year-old Adam Robertson, who died in November 2008 after losing his six-month battle with an incurable brain tumour.

Staff at Cafe Habana would like to thank everyone who made a donation.

University to hold open day

QUEEN Margaret University is holding an open day tomorrow for prospective undergraduates.

Tours of the university's new Musselburgh campus will be provided so visitors can meet course leaders and academics and discover more about student life, from 11am-3pm.
