Community News: Restaurant's ingredients to aid heroes
AN Indian restaurant is set to stage a fundraising night to help raise money for an armed forces charity.
Lancers Brasserie in Hamilton Place in Stockbridge is hosting the fundraiser to coincide with the restaurant's 25th anniversary on Wednesday.
A raffle will add to the profits, with all of the cash going to Help for Heroes, a charity which supports the war wounded. Bosses have also had a mural painted on a wall which depicts the Bengal Lancers army unit.
Writer gets her readers going green
POPULAR children's author and illustrator Kate Veale will help celebrate Edinburgh's commitment to biodiversity by launching a competition today at Newhaven Nursery.
The event, organised by the city council,will see the author/illustrator talk to the school about the necessity of a diverse environment and the need to raise awareness around issues within the community.
Get connected at story centre
A NETWORK Open Day is set to take place at the Scottish Storytelling Centre on Sunday. Workshops, talks and storytelling will all form part of the event, which runs from 12-5pm.
Visitors can also find out more about the centre's work.
Homes plan is granted
An initial planning application to build residential homes on the site of the Fairmilehead water works has been granted.
A new site at Glencorse, Midlothian will take over operations in 2011. Consultations are to be held at Fairmilehead Parish Church on October 8 and 9.
Film director tells her tale
Brazilian film director Julia Bacha will host a documentary masterclass later this month.
Bacha will talk about her work and the challenges of film-making and show some clips from her new film Budrus on September 24 at the Scottish Documentary Institute in Lauriston Place.
Use charity to help others dress to impress
PEOPLE across the city are being encouraged to continue donating unwanted clothing to help raise funds for the Children's Hospice Association Scotland.
Clothes collection company, Clothes Aid, has guaranteed to raise 150,000 for the charity over the next year, smashing its previous total by 50,000, thanks to generous clothing donations from households across the country.
