Community News: Free health check-up for women
A FREE day of health checks and information sessions for women is to take place at a private hospital.
Spire Murrayfield Hospital will hold the event on September 25, which includes talks on IVF, cosmetic surgery, breast care and weight.
Experts will also discuss more embarrassing female issues.
Mini health tests will be available by booking ahead, while those attending will be offered free massages and reflexology. Call 0131-316 2507.
Investment firm opens new office
Investment management firm Rathbones is to open a new office in St Andrew Square.
The firm, founded in Liverpool in 1742, has taken over the former Scottish & Newcastle headquarters at the junction of North St Andrew Street.
Rathbones' first Edinburgh office was opened in 1999 in South Charlotte Street and has grown to become an established presence on the Scottish scene.
Former convent turned into single home
It was once home to 16 nuns but now St Margaret's Convent is set to be transformed into a single house.
The Strathearn Road convent was put on the market two years ago after the number of novices entering the sisterhood dwindled, leaving only two nuns in the ten-bedroom Victorian baronial mansion. The Order of the Ursulines of Jesus had to revise its estimate down by 300,000 from its original asking price of 1.8m following the property crash.
Meeting over ex-school sale
A COMMUNITY council is to hold a meeting to discuss plans for a former primary school.
The council has agreed to sell the former Curriehill Primary to McDonald Estates for more than 4 million, and the developer is expected to turn it into a supermarket.
A public meeting is being organised for November.
Serving up flood funds
A INDIAN eatery is serving up a Bollywood-themed charity dinner to aid flood relief efforts in Pakistan.
Kebabish Original restaurant is inviting guests to its Dalry Road outlet this Sunday evening. Proceeds from the event, which begins at 7.30pm, will be donated to aid children in Pakistan.
Filmhouse is turning Japanese
THE best of Japanese-influenced animation is coming to the Filmhouse next month in a festival of anime and Manga.
Scotland Loves Animation is offering anime fans the chance to see their favourite films on the big screen from October 15-17.
