Comedian Hurst denies smashing phone at gig
STAND-UP comic Lee Hurst yesterday denied smashing an audience member's mobile phone at a gig.
The comedian is alleged to have grabbed the phone during a performance at a pub in Guildford, Surrey and thrown it to the floor.
The former star of TV show They Think It's All Over was yesterday accused at Guildford Magistrates Court of destroying the Motorola K1 handset worth 80 belonging to Gareth Hughes, intentionally or recklessly, on 4 September.
He pled not guilty to the charge of criminal damage, telling the court: "I wasn't there".
The charge carries a maximum sentence of three months in jail and/or a fine.
Magistrates granted Hurst, from Limehouse, south-east London, unconditional bail until the trial on 16 February, when he said he would represent himself.
