College tastes success with healthy menu

A LOTHIANS college has received a top healthy eating award for designing menus with healthier options.

West Lothian College was given the Healthy Living award for its selection of hot and cold food and the healthy options available within its canteen.

The criteria of the award states that winners must prepare and cook food in a healthy way, use nutritious ingredients, promote better diet choices and ensure 50 per cent of the food offered is a certified healthy living choice.

Yvonne Traynor, project manager for the Healthy Living award, said: "The level of commitment shown by West Lothian College in producing healthier food is exemplary.

"The award winners are helping their customers to make informed choices by making healthier options widely available and are playing their part in improving the diet of people across Scotland."

Principal Mhairi Laughlin added: "The college's catering team did a fantastic job and we are delighted that their efforts have been recognised."
