College sets out to turn lives around
PEOPLE with few or no qualifications are being invited to apply to Scotland's only adult education residential college to find out how learning can turn their lives around.
Newbattle Abbey College, in Dalkeith, offers a custom-designed Arts and Humanities Award, which gives adults access to university programmes throughout the country.
Areas covered on the course, which can be studied on a full-time or open-learning basis, include history, psychology, ecology, politics and English literature, as well as communications, computing and maths.
Students studying the one-year full-time course begin their studies in September and many choose to live on campus.
Ann Southwood, principal of Newbattle Abbey College, said: "Our open learning course has proved to be very successful and many people from across the country have signed up, studying at their own pace during times suitable for them.
"Our full-time course also continues to be popular and we have excellent progression routes in place with a number of universities, including the Edinburgh College of Art.
"Over the years, our college has given many adults a well-earned second chance at education, providing life-changing experiences."
