College set for Celtic fest

FINAL preparations are under way for the annual Celtic Festival at Newbattle Abbey College in Dalkeith.

The festival, which is now in its third year, will take place on May 19 at the college, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.

Organisers said the milestone means this year’s celebrations promise to be the biggest yet, with special guests including musicians Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain.

The folk stars will be taking to the stage in the festival ceilidh tent, rounding off a day of music, dance, crafts, outdoor activities and culture.

Ann Southwood, principal of the college, said: “Our festival will see a rich mix of live music, dance, song and debate from local groups, performers and some big names.”
