Climbers safe after night in Cairngorms
TWO climbers survived a night in the white hell of the Cairngorms after sheltering behind a massive boulder and climbing into bivvy bags.
Marcus Scott, 29, a chef at the Aviemore Highland Resort, and his climbing companion, a 22-year-old from Inverness, were forced to spend the night in atrocious conditions after becoming disorientated after reaching the summit of Cairn Gorm.
The alarm was raised on Wednesday night after one of the men sent a text message to his girlfriend telling her they had become lost.
She replied urging them to stay where they were and dig a snow hole. They didn't manage to dig a hole, but instead found alternative shelter.
They were found safe and well yesterday morning in the valley at Strath Nethy by the crew of an RAF Sea King helicopter, as mountain rescue teams battled through waist-deep snow to find them. The two men later headed back to their homes.
