Climate change
Since climate change is ecologically linked to carbon dioxide emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels, it is obvious that this problem would only be exacerbated by the further combustion of biofuels.
There is some justification, in the short term, for the incineration of domestic refuse and wastes incidentally produced in the forestry industry, but the deliberate growing of crops to produce carbon-containing biofuels as an industrial process makes no environmental sense at all.
Against this background, perhaps we should be grateful, like Alan Black (Letters, 1 December), that the Scottish Government will not now be subsidising any project which would increase the combustion of carbon-containing fuels as an energy source.
