Upbeat Adams ‘delighted’ with County’s start

ROSS County manager Derek Adams claims his side are only two points short of a “perfect start” to their first season in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League, despite being second bottom.

The Staggies are six points ahead of Dundee having played a game more following Saturday’s 4-0 defeat by Celtic at Parkhead.

Adams has to look back to 3 November for County’s last win – a 2-1 victory over Aberdeen – but the former Motherwell midfielder insists his team are not far off their target.

Ahead of the trip to Hibernian this afternoon, he said: “I am delighted with the progress this football club has made in the SPL.

“We have had an excellent start to the SPL with 18 points in 19 games. We are probably two points short of where we would be delighted to be.

“We would have had a perfect start with 20 points, but 18 points is fine and if we can do the same in the second half and a wee bit more we will do well this season.

“We don’t have expectations. We have gone from the First Division into the SPL and there is no expectation at our football club.

“We are in the SPL and for a team like Ross County it is something we have enjoyed and we have only been defeated seven times in 19 games and that is terrific.”

County put up a decent show in the first half at Parkhead and he said: “We were able to open up Celtic a number of times and that is not an easy thing.

“We will try to add to the squad in January and we look forward to the second half of the season.”

Adams has one doubt for the trip to Easter Road after Alex Cooper was replaced by Mark Corcoran early in the second half at Celtic Park.

He said: “Alex Cooper had to come off injured with a nasty gash to his leg. Everybody else seems to be fine.

“We will assess things and take it from there.”
