Class sizes to be increased

MIDLOTHIAN Council plans to increase class sizes to 30 to save more than £460,000 from the education budget.

The increases will take place in English and maths. Savings will also be made on cutting back music tuition in places.

Councillor Peter Boyes, cabinet member for education, announced the cost-saving measure but added: "We anticipate that many of our S1-2 maths and English class sizes will remain with around 20 pupils."
