City makes promotion awards list
THE Capital has been named on a shortlist of the European cities that are best at promoting themselves.
Edinburgh will battle it out against Barcelona and Dublin in the "innovation" category of the Eurocities Awards 2010. The awards are competed for annually by over 140 cities in more than 30 European countries.
The Capital was selected in recognition of Destination Edinburgh Marketing Alliance's (DEMA) new approach to promoting the city.
Kenneth Wardrop, chief executive of DEMA, said: "We're delighted to learn Edinburgh has been shortlisted for the
innovation award by Eurocities against the backdrop of an
unprecedented number of cities under consideration.
"DEMA's aim of bringing leadership and clear direction to the city's destination marketing is ongoing but it's extremely encouraging to have been recognised in the short time we've been operational.
"Given current economic conditions, partnership working doesn't just make sense, it's a must. We're happy that other European cities want to hear about and learn from our progress and innovative work on the global promotion of Edinburgh."
The awards are due to be presented in Zaragoza, Spain, in November.
