City homeless project set to mark 30 years

City homeless project Stopover celebrates its 30th anniversary tomorrow.

The project, operated by Four Square, provides a staffed, 24-hour access, emergency hostel for homeless young people aged 16 to 21, along with additional support services, including life skills training, advice on debt and assistance to address housing needs.

Lothians Labour MSP Sarah Boyack has lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament, highlighting Stopover's work producing personal development plans to help the young people tackle the issues that have led to their homelessness, such as family breakdown, drug and alcohol abuse, sexual abuse, young offending, disability and mental health problems.

She said Stopover was the first emergency hostel in Scotland dedicated to homeless young people and the fact the majority of referrals were self-referrals was testament to the trust they placed in the project.
