City bus cuts 'not viable'
NEIL Renilson, the former chief executive of Lothian Buses, has warned that plans to reduce the number of buses using Princes Street risk damaging city centre business.
A review of city bus routes is expected after the design firm Dehl told councillors Princes Street is "noisy and unfriendly".
However, Mr Renilson, who retired in 2008 after heading up the bus firm for a decade, cast doubt on high-profile plans to transform the city centre into a more pedestrian-friendly area.
He said: "The only real options for running buses through the city centre are along Princes Street or George Street. Queen Street is just far too far away to be viable."
