City attacked over failure to consult on school plan
CITY leaders have been criticised for a lack of communication on plans for a new high school.
A report to the city council's economic development committee last month said that work would not start on the new Castlebrae Community High School until 2018 "at the earliest".
In a response to a question from Councillor Maureen Child, education leader Councillor Marilyne MacLaren admitted that no consultation was carried out ahead of the decision.
Councillor Ricky Henderson, education spokesman for the Labour group, said: "Today we've learned that no-one locally, including, it appears, the education department itself, were consulted on the five-year delay and the decision appears to have been taken by another department – city development.
"I find it shocking that local residents in Craigmillar weren't consulted on this."
