City's health leader clashes with NHS chiefs over bed-blocking
THE city's health and social care leader has clashed with senior NHS Lothian chiefs over bed-blocking in the city.
Cllr Paul Edie, who also sits on the Lothian NHS Board, launched a stinging attack on bosses' negative approach to the problem.
He said compared with three years ago, when 550 patients were fit to leave hospital but had nowhere to go, the present figure of 40 showed a drastic improvement.
Despite this, several board members said it still needed to be improved upon, to the annoyance of the Lib Dem councillor.
"I'm upset and narked by this," he said. "I find the negative approach round this table staggering."
