City man in court on Albanian child abuse charge
A MAN from Edinburgh has gone on trial for alleged child abuse in Albania, after more than 22 months in jail.
David Brown appeared in court in the capital Tirana to face allegations of abuse at the His Children home, which he ran there.
Mr Brown, 56, has denied any wrongdoing, and says he uncovered the abuse in the orphanage.
His supporters welcomed the opening of the trial following almost two years of delays.
Two people took to the witness stand on Wednesday afternoon, the first day of the trial. One of the older boys from the orphanage was questioned for an hour.
David's partner, Ruth Callaghan, said: "His Albanian lawyer Gjystina Golloshi says that everything went very positively in David's favour. She also tells me that David is in good form and in good health."
His next court appearance is scheduled for next Wednesday.
