A CITY council worker has been sacked as part of the ongoing investigation into the Statutory Notices scandal.

The senior staff member was caught asking a council repairs contractor for money towards a holiday.

Police and external auditors have been carrying out an investigation into claims that city employees within the local authority’s Property Conservation division allocated work to favoured contractors in return for bribes.

Their inquiries have so far resulted in the sacking of seven staff while another 13 have been suspended.

The recently sacked staff member, who was approaching retirement, asked the firm for a four figure sum after the corruption probe began.

It is thought he requested the loan after being short of funds for a holiday.
