Cigarette sales ban delayed
THE BAN on cigarette sales from vending machines has been delayed because of legal challenges to the legislation, the Scottish Government said yesterday.
Due to be implemented on 1 October, the ban is one of several measures being introduced under the Tobacco and Primary Medical Services (Scotland) Act 2010.
The law also includes provisions to establish a Scottish Tobacco Retailer Register and a ban on displaying tobacco in shops.
Two legal challenges against the vending machine sales ban have been dismissed but appeal proceedings mean the ban has to miss its October enactment. A new date will be set later.
