Children's home abuse case is adjourned

THE case against a man charged with sexually assaulting girls at a Jersey children's home was yesterday adjourned for a month.

Gordon Claude Wateridge, 76, is charged with three offences of indecent assault on girls under 16 between 1969 and 1979 when he worked at the Haut de la Garenne home.

The former warder, originally from Croydon, Surrey, entered no plea and was remanded in custody at St Helier Magistrates' Court until 14 April.

The home is at the centre of one of Britain's biggest ever abuse investigations.
