Children are encouraged to eat fish
SENIOR researchers at an Edinburgh university are working with nursery children in East Lothian to help improve their diets.
Experts in nutrition at Queen Margaret University are encouraging children at Olivebank Nursery in Musselburgh to eat more oily fish as part of a balanced diet.
Nursery aged children in Scotland have very low intakes of oily fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardines and fresh tuna, which are the key dietary source of Omega 3 fatty acids.
The research team aims to encourage children to become more aware of fish - where it comes from, what it tastes like, and how they can incorporate it into their every day diet.
The children will visit a local fishmonger where they will be introduced to different types of fish, before making some tasty snacks with their purchases.
