Cherry picks up race gear for 14th year
A PENSIONER who hasn't missed an annual long-distance charity run in 14 years is gearing up for the race later this month.
Cherry Inglis, 68, is one of Cancer Research UK's longest-running fundraisers and will run her 14th Race for Life around Holyrood Park on 28 June.
Ms Inglis, who volunteers at the Western General, said the people she met during her work there inspired her to take part.
She said: "Back in 1996, there were only about 500 women taking part.
"Today, the event has grown so much, and there will be thousands and thousands of us. It gets better every time and I can't wait to be part of it again."
Another inspiration for her was the plight of her sister-in-law, who survived breast cancer.
"Mary-Ann is one of the lucky ones," she added.
"Her cancer was caught in time and her treatment was successful, but in my job I meet lots of people who are giving everything in their fight against cancer."
There are still spaces to take part in the women-only event. For information call, 0871-641 2282.
