A ROUND-the-world charity walker who “disappeared” for two months after arriving in Turkey has turned up – in Ireland.
James Thomas, 30, left his Leith home in January to embark on a £1 million fundraising walk to Dunedin, New Zealand, in aid of children’s charity UNICEF.
After months of Facebook and Twitter updates, Mr Thomas, 30, apparently vanished without trace shortly after reaching Istanbul in early August. UNICEF said they were “hugely concerned” for the safety of the Napier University graduate and friends reporting him missing to Turkish police. But friend Christine Linde ended speculation on October 4, writing on Facebook: “It’s no great mystery – James left Europe and apparently didn’t have the right paperwork for the Middle East so was deported back home.”
