Charity praises Brown for backing visits to Auschwitz
A CHARITY which takes hundreds of Lothians youngsters to one of the world's most harrowing sites has praised the Prime Minister for his backing of the project.
The Holocaust Education Trust ensures school pupils get the opportunity to visit Auschwitz and learn about what took place there during the Second World War.
It said that a recent visit to the site by Gordon Brown would only strengthen the initiative and help more children make the journey.
Chief executive Karen Pollock said: "We hope that his visit will inspire other young people to join us on the Lessons From Auschwitz project and become ambassadors in their own communities, raising awareness of the past and challenging prejudice and racism today."
