A GIANT fibreglass Easter egg, said to be worth £10,000, has been stolen from Glasgow city centre triggering a police hunt.

The 2ft-high egg is one of more than 100 which were hidden across Glasgow by the charity Action for Children for its Big Egg Hunt.

It was taken from its spot in Buchanan Street in the early hours of Friday.

The eggs feature some of the UK’s best-loved children’s characters such as Moshi Monsters, Peppa Pig and SpongeBob SquarePants, as well as unique designs by artists.

The missing egg, designed by Matthew Dent and entitled A Thousand Forests, features a red and yellow tree design.

Andrew Harris, the charity’s director of fundraising, said: “The hunt is a really fun way for families, locals and tourists alike to enjoy the age-old Easter egg hunt tradition on a huge scale and as a giant exhibition of modern art, whilst raising vital funds for some of the most vulnerable children across Scotland and the UK.

“We appeal to whoever poached our egg to return it to us soon. And in the meantime, the hunt, the fun and the fundraising goes on.”

The remaining eggs can be found in St Enoch Square, outside Buchanan Galleries and in some shops and museums.
