Changes to air tickets 'can cost £40 per person'

AIR passengers are facing sky-high charges when they alter flight bookings.

Changing a flight or the date of a booking can cost up to 40 per person, a survey of UK and Ireland airlines reveals.

And changing the name of the person flying can set travellers back up to 120, while some carriers do not allow this at all.

The survey by travelsupermarket.com also found that passengers wanting refunds either cannot have them or can pay up to 40 for them.

Spokesman Bob Atkinson said: "Life changes. We make mistakes, commitments change, people fall ill or pass away, there is travel disruption due to weather or other things, we change our minds, we fall out with friends and partners or leave our partners.

"There are myriad reasons why our plans change, and many of them are unforeseen. However, many charges – due to mistakes and carelessness – can also be avoided."
