Centre launches search for tour guides
VOLUNTEER tour guides are being sought to lead groups of visitors round the Eric Liddell Centre's recently restored stained glass windows.
It will be the first time guided tours will be on offer at the Holy Corner centre.
The stained-glass windows were designed by some of Scotland's leading 20th century artists. The 20 designs were restored thanks to funding from Historic Scotland and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
One of the first volunteers to act as a tour guide is former Merchiston councillor Sue Tritton. She will be trained up by former Morningside councillor and experienced tour guide Liz O'Malley, who will be training up all the volunteers.
Bob Rendall, chief executive of the centre, said the tours will mark the end of a major refurbishment programme.
He said: "I'm quite excited because it shows that we are coming to the end of a lengthy process of refurbishment and the restoration of the stained-glass windows really is the icing on the cake."
The completion of the windows was the final phase in a 2.5 million conversion of the former North Morningside church into a thriving community centre.
It is now used by more than 150 groups, providing services for the elderly, the disabled and people with mental health problems.
Anyone wishing to sign up to become a guide should contact Mr Rendall on 0131-447 4520.
