Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes announce divorce after five year marriage

HOLLYWOOD stars Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have announced they are getting divorced after five years’ marriage.

Holmes filed for divorce in New York on Thursday, citing irreconcilable differences. She is believed to be seeking sole custody of six-year-old daughter, Suri.

Cruise, who also has two children from his marriage to Nicole Kidman, was said to be “deeply saddened”. He is among Hollywood’s highest-paid actors starring in blockbusters such as Top Gun, Jerry Maguire and the Mission Impossible series, while Katie Holmes rose to fame as an actress on US television drama Dawson’s Creek and has also appeared in Batman Begins and Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark.

The couple are estimated to be worth about £175 million combined.
