Melanie Sykes to marry boyfriend she met on Twitter four months ago

Giving hope to social media celebrity stalkers everywhere, TV presenter Melanie Sykes has announced her engagement to Jack Cockings, whom she met after the 26-year-old tweeted her to ask her on a date.

Sykes took to Twitter, of course, to share the news, posting: “To my beautiful twitter friends just want to let you know that me & Jack @bespokespartan are engaged to be married and we are very giddy xxxx.”

The couple met in person in May after Cockings, who had previously sent tweets to Cheryl Cole and Jodie Marsh (unsuccessfully) asking them to go out with him, first tweeted Sykes asking her out in April. Twitter clearly continued to play a large part in their relationship, with Sykes being criticised by fans for a series of risqué tweets to Cockings that provided a little too much information on her happiness.

Sykes, who is 42, has two children from her marriage to actor Daniel Caltagirone, which ended in 2009.
