THE palace confirmed today that Kate Middleton and Prince William are expecting their first baby. We take a look at the other major milestones in their relationship through the years.

September 2001: Kate Middleton and Prince William meet at St Andrews University, where they are both studying art history. William will later switch to geography.

September 2002: The pair move in to a house in St. Andrews with two other university friends.

December 2003: Kate splits from her boyfriend, and rumours that the two are dating begin to circulate.

June 2005: William and Kate both graduate from St Andrews.

January 2006: The pair are photographed kissing in public for the first time during a skiing holiday.

April 2007: It is confirmed that the couple have broken up.

June 2007: They are reported to have started dating again after their brief split.

June 2010: They move in to a cottage in north Wales together.

October 2010: William proposes to Kate whilst on holiday in Kenya.

November 2010: Their engagement is confirmed by Clarence house.

April 2011: The couple get married at Westminster Abbey. The ceremony is watched by more than 24 million viewers worldwide.

December 2012: The palace announces that the couple are expecting their first baby.
