SHE has filled some of the television’s best known and most memorable roles, from The New Avengers’ dynamic crime fighter Purdey to Ab Fab’s dissolute lush Patsy.

But now Joanna Lumley is offering people the opportunity to own a piece of showbiz history, by auctioning some of her most famous outfits in aid of charity.

Among some of the items due to go under the hammer will be a Chanel suit from her own wardrobe, a Joseph zebra print coat worn in Absolutely Fabulous, a dress she once wore to the Baftas and a corset from her role as Purdey in The New Avengers.

The 66-year-old said she selected items that were special to her to go on sale in order to raise money for the Prince’s Trust.

She said: “I am giving up some of my greatest treasures and happiest memories. I am so thrilled to think that the proceeds will all go to benefit young people through one of my all-time
favourite charities. I love each item and each garment with a passion.”

She said: “I was offered the chance to buy them from the designers at 50 per cent off. So I snapped up the ones I loved.”

She said it was time to share the items she has accrued from her decades in show business.

“If you’re as old as I am, you’ve seen it all before. You’ve done it all, 30 or 40 years ago.” she said.

The auction will take place in Kerry Taylor Auctions, London this evening and the lots can be viewed on their website, www.kerrytaylorauctions.com/sales/.
