Fair trade: Cardboard celebrities to protest

A PROTEST with a difference will be held outside the Westminster Parliament today when thousands of “mini marchers” will join a fair trade campaign.

The Fairtrade Foundation has been urging celebrities and members of the public to create a personalised cardboard figure of themselves to demonstrate their backing for trade justice. The figures will be lined up opposite Parliament as part of a campaign to encourage government to put smallholder farmers at the heart of its trade policy.

More than 5,000 people have signed an online petition that will be delivered to Prime Minister David Cameron on World Fair Trade Day in May, ahead of the next meeting of G8 nations.
