IT was “love all” as it emerged Scots tennis star Andy Murray has become engaged to his long-term girlfriend, Kim Sears, his agent confirmed tonight.
The tennis ace, 27, popped the question with a diamond ring after a nine-year courtship.
A source close to the couple said: “Andy spent ages thinking about the ring, he chose the design himself and picked it up last week.
“Kim said ‘yes’ immediately. They are completely besotted with each other and have been there for each other through thick and thin. They are just going to enjoy themselves before they start planning their big day.”
The couple met when in 2005 at the US Open when Ms Sears, who was aged 17 at the time, was travelling with her father, a tennis coach. Murray and Sears split for six months in 2010 - but were soon reunited.
In the past Murray, of Dunblance, has been reluctant to answer questions about his relationship but earlier this year was forced to deny he planned to marry Sears after joking about his love life on Twitter.
Asked when he plans to marry Miss Sears during a Twitter Q&A with fans in January, Murray responded: ‘We’re getting married just after Wimbledon,
News of the engagement came on the same day it was revealed Murray has dispensed with the services of his longstanding assistant coach Dani Vallverdu and physical trainer Jez Green.
