CD tribute to Scots composer
A UNIVERSITY lecturer has created a new CD featuring original work by Scottish composer Robert Crawford.
Nicholas Ashton, a classical pianist and lecturer at Napier University's Ian Tomlin School of Music, hopes it will spark new interest in his music.
Music for Piano and Strings includes the 2005 piano quintet played by the Edinburgh Quartet, who are artists in residence at Napier, and all Crawford's main works for solo piano.
"The director of Delphian Records, Paul Baxter, contacted me with the project to record Robert's piano music. He gave me the scores to read and I was very impressed," Mr Ashton said.
"The CD was released two weeks ago. It's prompted other composers to ask me to perform their work. Hopefully there will be a CD of contemporary Scottish music released later this year."
