CD Review: Le Reno Amps

LE RENO AMPS: TEAR IT OPEN *** DRIFT RECORDS, £9.78

GLASGOW four-piece Le Reno Amps won't be caught napping on their hell-for-leather new album Tear It Open.

Their alternately chugging, chiming or jangling indie pop numbers are peppy and serviceable but they make a more interesting noise when they wade into swampier rockabilly territory, as they do frequently here, whether on the Caledonian country blues canter of recent single Outlaws or the malevolent mariachi thrashing of Dangerous Boy. Closing track The Gilded Road veers all over the place, encompassing both Krautrock and hard rock, so who knows where they will end up next?
