Casino shooting trial opens
FOUR men went on trial at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday accused of conspiring to murder a man who suffered a head injury in a shooting outside a casino in Edinburgh.
Francis McGlone, 39, Jamie Robertson, 25, Imran Sakur, 35, and Craig Kelbie, 35, deny a plot to kill Anthony Demarco, 62.
It is alleged that Sakur, of Broughty Ferry, approached Kelbie, of Dundee, between April and May last year and asked him to arrange the murder of Mr Demarco on behalf of Sakur and another. Kelbie is said to have agreed, and contacted McGlone and Robertson, both of Paisley.
The charge claims that McGlone and Robertson drove to the Gala Maybury Casino on 3 June last year.
It is further alleged that Robertson presented a firearm at Mr Demarco and fired. Mr Demarco was hit and left permanently impaired, it is said.
