Cash handout gives women's choir something to sing about

A CITY-based women's choir is to be awarded cash to make the organisation more accessible.

The Wildfire Women's Choir made the application to the Leith Neighbourhood Partnership.

The board recommended that the organisation should be awarded 820 to take the project forward.

The group, which gathers at Pilrig St Paul's church, will spend the cash on workshop fees in the hope of attracting females from all walks of life to join the ranks.

Black and ethnic minority groups will be especially targeted as the choir attempts to become more multicultural and reap the benefits of a diverse group of singers.

The ten-week tutoring programme is open to beginners, with the overall aim of celebrating women's culture and achievements across the globe through song.

Choir officials added that there were considerable mental and physical health benefits to be gained from singing in an organised set-up on a regular basis.

The Neighbourhood Partnership decided that the group and its cause was deserving of cash from the Community Grants fund and will recommend that the award be made.
