Cash boost for canal centre
A PROJECT to develop a Canal Heritage Education Centre in Linlithgow has been boosted with £45,000 of Lottery money.
Linlithgow Union Canal Society (LUCS), a charity staffed entirely by unpaid volunteers, received the grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to provide an education programme for primary schools.
Such a service has been offered on a small scale for more than 25 years, but is restricted in scope by the 1820s buildings.
On average, around 1000 primary school children use the service.
With the support of HLF and West Lothian Council, a new building in keeping with the existing site will accommodate up to 36 people and will be available all year round.
