Carnoustie's £1m seafront facelift officially unveiled

A CEREMONY in Carnoustie officially opened the £1 million redevelopment the Angus town's seafront yesterday.

The refurbishment, carried out by Dundee Plant Ltd, has been aimed at enhancing facilities for both local people and visitors to the golfing resort.

The development includes new play equipment and surfaces, footpaths, soft landscaping, shelters, refurbishment of the paddling pool, a crazy golf course and the creation of a dedicated area for teenagers.

Councillor Peter Murphy, the depute provost of Angus, said: "

"We have created an exciting and imaginative leisure and play area that will make the seafront a major attraction for local residents and visitors."

A council spokeswoman said: "As part of the project, the council has installed CCTV cameras. This, in conjunction with the main works, professional fees and contingencies, brings the total budget to 1,197,500, which is being met in its entirety from the sale of the Dalhousie Golf Club."
