Carlyle tipped for lead role in Rossiter biopic
ROBERT Carlyle is set to star in a biopic of the life of Leonard Rossiter.
Rossiter, a British film and television star, was most famous for his portrayal of crude landlord Rigsby in classic sitcom Rising Damp and as the lead in The Fall And Rise Of Reginald Perrin.
He died of a heart attack while waiting to go onstage at the Lyric Theatre in London in 1984. His death came as a shock to many as he was only 57 and considered physically fit.
Carlyle, 47, has reportedly been contacted by a production company in London just days after admitting in an interview that he was a huge fan of the cult actor. The Full Monty star said: "I would love to play him."
He added: "I got an e-mail from a guy in London saying they were making a biopic of Rossiter. So I'm going to see the treatment."
