Care chiefs set plan for future

CARE home bosses today warned planning must start now to ensure Scotland can meet the needs of its ageing population over the next decade.

Ranald Mair, chief executive of Scottish Care, which represents care home owners, said: "We need to think about how we shape the sector for the future, how much care we are going to need in Scotland and what types of care. We are looking to the Government to give a lead on these issues."

There are 940 care homes for older people in Scotland providing places for 35,000 people at any point in time.
