Car club chief steers drivers away from used vehicles
THE firm in charge of Edinburgh's biggest car-sharing scheme says joining such clubs saves motorists hundreds on making second-hand vehicles roadworthy.
City Car Club said figures from the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) had shown that motorists buying second-hand cars are now spending an average of 425 just to make them roadworthy.
James Finlayson, City Car Club's managing director, said: "These latest figures from the OFT make for compelling reading.
"Buying a second-hand car can be a risky business, and it seems that more and more motorists are losing out. The increasing availability of car club cars right across the UK provides a real alternative to those wanting access to a car without the hassle, expense and risk of private car ownership."
City Car Club has cars and vans across 14 UK cities and a membership base approaching 20,000.
