Capzise kayaker dies after being swept out to sea
A KAYAKER died after being swept out to sea when he capsized in a bay.
Philip Low, 47, from the Kirriemuir area, was found face down in the sea off the coast of Angus. He was one of two kayakers who capsized in Lunan Bay late on Saturday afternoon.
Forth Coastguard said there had been strong winds in the area at the time.
One of the kayakers made it back to shore, but Mr Low was swept out to sea and died.
The inshore lifeboat found and recovered his body about 25 minutes after the alarm was raised. He was face down in the water, with his lifejacket floating nearby.
The crew tried to resuscitate him until they reached the lifeboat shed when a team of paramedics took over. The man was declared dead shortly after being taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
Tayside Police said they want to speak to an Eastern European couple who allowed their mobile phone to be used to contact the emergency services.
