Capital courier firm takes owl under its wing

A CITY courier firm has taken an eagle owl at a West Lothian wildlife attraction under its wing.

Eagle Couriers has agreed to adopt Ollie, the Five Sisters Zoo's eagle owl, after the attraction was chosen as the recipient of one of its "special deliveries".

Under the charity scheme, launched last month, community groups and small charities in the Lothians were encouraged to apply to Eagle Couriers and explain what gift they would need to improve their work in their local area.

The initiative was open to groups that do not usually receive funding from major charities such as the National Lottery, with Eagle promising to pay for and deliver whatever the winning applicant had asked for.

Now, after receiving requests from community groups across the Lothians, the firm has decided to lend its support to the Five Sisters Zoo in West Calder, which is in desperate need of funding.

The zoo's "special delivery" will see Eagle Couriers sponsor an animal enclosure at the attraction, as well as adopting Ollie, who will be the firm's unofficial mascot.

Company director Fiona Deas said that it had been dismayed by the plight of the cash-strapped attraction and was delighted to help sponsor the animals.
